Method 1. Ping the server computer from the workstation to check interconnectivity

Before you start, enable Network Discovery on the server computer and workstation where you get error H202. Here’s How:

  • Click the Start menu on the server computer and workstations.
  • In the search, type ‘Network’ and open Network and Sharing Center.
  • Choose Change advanced sharing settings, go to the Network Discovery and File and Printer sharing sections, and select Turn on network discovery.

To know your server’s name:

  • Move to your server computer, click the Start menu, and type Run in the search.
  • Open Run, type CMD in the Run dialog box, and hit Enter.
  • In the CMD window, type ‘ipconfig/all’ and tap Enter.
  • Under the Windows IP Configuration section, the Host Name is your server name.
  • Copy the server name and move to the workstation to test the server.
  • On your workstation, select the Windows Start menu and type Run in the search.
  • Open Run, type CMD, and hit Enter.
  • In the CMD window, write “ping [server name],” and tap Enter.
  • Follow these steps for each workstation that gets QuickBooks error H202.

Method 2. Verify QuickBooks services on your server computer

Follow these steps to make sure QuickBooks services are running on your server computer. First, check for QuickBooks DBXX and then repeat the same steps for QBCF Monitor Service:

  • Go to the Windows Start menu, type Run in the search and open it.
  • In the Run dialog box, type ‘services.msc’ and hit Enter.
  • Look for QuickBooks DBXX in the list and double-click it. For the Startup Type, choose Automatic.
  • Go to Service status and check if it is either Running or Started. If it is none from them, click Start.
  • Move to the Recovery tab and choose to Restart the Service drop-down from First failure, Second failure, and Subsequent failures.
  • To save the new settings, click Apply and then OK.
  • Now, check for QBCF Monitor Service by following the same steps.
  • Go to each workstation one by one and open QuickBooks.
  • From the File menu, select the Switch to Multi-user Mode option.
